Thisstandardisissuedunderthe xeddesignationG154;thenumberimmediatelyfollowingthedesignationindicatestheyearoforiginaladoptionor,inthecaseofrevision,theyearoflastrevision.Anumberinparenthesesindicatestheyearoflastreapproval.Asuperscriptepsilon(e)indicatesaneditorialchangesincethelastrevisionorreapproval.

1.Scope
1.1Thispracticecoversthebasicprinciplesandoperatingproceduresforusing uorescentUVlight,andwaterapparatusintendedtoreproducetheweatheringeffectsthatoccurwhenmaterialsareexposedtosunlight(eitherdirectorthroughwindowglass)andmoistureasrainordewinactualusage.Thispracticeislimitedtotheproceduresforobtaining,measuring,andcontrollingconditionsofexposure.Anumberofexposureproceduresarelistedinanappendix;however,thispracticedoesnotspecifytheexposureconditionsbestsuitedforthematerialtobetested.
NOTE1—PracticeG151describesperformancecriteriaforallexposuredevicesthatuselaboratorylightsources.ThispracticereplacesPracticeG53,whichdescribesveryspeci cdesignsfordevicesusedfor uores-centUVexposures.TheapparatusdescribedinPracticeG53iscoveredbythispractice.
1.2Testspecimensareexposedto uorescentUVlightundercontrolledenvironmentalconditions.Differenttypesof uorescentUVlightsourcesaredescribed.
1.3SpecimenpreparationandevaluationoftheresultsarecoveredinASTMmethodsorspeci cationsforspeci cmaterials.GeneralguidanceisgiveninPracticeG151andISO4892-1.Morespeci cinformationaboutmethodsfordeter-miningthechangeinpropertiesafterexposureandreportingtheseresultsisdescribedinISO4582.
1.4ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.
1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappro-priatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplica-bilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
