Abstract.ResultsarepresentedofastudyofthevariablestarpopulationsinthedwarfspheroidalgalaxyLeoIandinthedwarfirregulargalaxyNGC6822,basedontimeseriesphotometryobtainedwiththeWideFieldImagerofthe2.2mESO/MPItelescope(LeoI)andtheVeryLargeTelescope(NGC6822).Wefoundabout250(lowerlimit)variablesinLeoImostofwhichareRRLyraestars.InNGC6822weidenti ed450candidatevariablesamongwhichabout20areRRLyraestars,andmanyarelow-luminosity,small-amplitudeCepheids.Keywords.LocalGroupgalaxies–variablestars–stellarpopulations
