W: I think cloning technology is against the law. What about you, Michael?

M: I can’t agree with you. I think it promotes the development of our society. (Text 2)

W: How long will it take to have my computer repaired? I want to find some

information about cloning.

M: I’ll call you when it’s ready, but it shouldn’t take longer than a week. (Text 3)

M: I’m sorry to hear that your bike was stolen last night. Did you tell the police

about it?

W: No. I plan to report it to the police this afternoon. I’ve had too many other

things to do this morning.

M: Well, the quicker, the better. (Text 4)

W: Hello. This is Kate speaking.

M: Hello. May I have a word with Karen?

W: I’m sorry that she is not in right now. Can you leave a message?

M: OK. Please ask her to call Harry this afternoon. (Text 5)

W: Tomorrow is Sunday. What about a picnic? We could go to the countryside.

M: Actually, I’d prefer to go to the library to do some research on the cloning

projects taking place in our country.

W: OK, then would you like to go shopping with me after you get back?

M: OK. That’s a deal. (Text 6)

W: Would you like some coffee?

M: Yes, but I don’t think you have time. You’re working this evening, aren’t you?

W: Yes, but I won’t start until 8:30. That’s half an hour from now. In fact, I wanted

to ask you for a favor.

M: What is it? Go ahead.

W: Do you still remember me talking about Sally and David?

M: You mean your friends from New York? Why?

W: They will stay here for a couple of weeks, and I wonder if you’d be free to show

them around a bit.

M: I’d love to.

W: They haven’t been to Hong Kong before, so you’d have plenty of choices of

where to take them.
