A Comparison Between Chinese and American Talk Shows to See the Differences Between Chinese and Western Culture

Abstract:With the development of the society, the form of TV programs is constantly changing.Talk show programs gradually come into our lives.It is playing the role of managing not only in the world of television but also in our lives.In each program, the column group will choose one or some of the recent popular topics to discuss with the guests.This common western form of television is shining in China.This article will talk about the development of talk show in the United States and China,and then make a comparison between them to find out some differences between the Chinese and Western culture.

Introduction

With the popularization and development of cross culture,the Chinese and American culture is getting more and more attention.As a kind of program form, talk show reflects the cultural value of different countries.In recent years, in the rapid development of China's talk show,Chinese talk shows more or less get some ideas from the American talk shows.But because of cultural differences, there are a lot of differences between the two countries’ talk show programs.Although the Chinese and American talk shows are different, they can learn from each other and promote their development.We can also see some of the differences between Chinese and Western cultures from the comparison of Chinese and American Talk Shows.

1.The Birth and Development of American and Chinese Talk Show

The Chinese word "Tuo kou xiu" is the transliteration of "Talk show".Talk show is a kind of TV program type which is evolved from the American 1920s’ so-called "radio talk show" program.The host of this program does not need to prepare all the lines in advance, because the program is a form of talk, in which the host plays a leading role.In recent years,due to the accelerated pace of life and lifestyle changes, TV talk show program has been rapidly developing in China.Not only because of its low cost of production, but also because it meets the cultural tastes of most audience. People need to laugh and think. Talk shows are able to provide both of them.
